Coconut Necklace

Coconut Necklace

from $85.00

The original inspiration for African vinyl disc necklaces popularized in the 1960's, each of these discs is hand-carved from coconut shells.

100% of net proceeds from this style will go towards Building Black Bed-Stuy, whose mission is to protect and preserve the black community in Bed Stuy and beyond by providing financial relief for black-owned businesses and organizations.

Found in the coastal countries of the African continent, coconuts are valued for not only the nutrition they provide but for their biproducts. As part of a wasteless ideology, each part of the fruit is used, including its shell. Artisans clean, dry, cut, and carve the shell to make decorative arts including bowls, and beads.
